Meek the latest Pirate to land on disabled list

Pitcher Tim Wood recalled from Indianapolis; catcher Chris Snyder transferred to 60-day DL after back surgery

The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed pitcher Evan Meek on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Righthanded pitcher Tim Wood has been selected from Triple-A Indianapolis. Catcher Chris Snyder has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The 28-year-old Wood went 0-0 with 13 saves and a 2.96 ERA (24.1ip/8er) while not allowing a home run in 23 relief appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. At the time of his promotion to the big leagues, Wood ranked second in the International League in saves. Wood was scored upon twice in his first three appearances (2.1ip/4er), but has allowed just four earned runs in his last 22.0 innings of work (1.64 ERA) with the Indians.

Wood began 2011 with Washington before being released on March 31 and was signed that day by the Pirates to a minor league contract. He was originally selected by Florida in the 44th round of the 2002-First Year Player Draft. He is 1-1 with one save and a 4.32 ERA (50.0ip/24er) in 44 career appearances in the big leagues, including a 1-0 mark and 2.82 ERA (22.1ip/7er) in 18 appearances with the Marlins in 2009.
