Coming off a 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Penguins overcame two unanswered goals from the Panthers to end their road trip with a win. Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis and Zbynek Michalek all tallied even-strength goals while Craig Adams netted a shorthanded empty-netter to seal the deal.

Tyler Kennedy continued his scoring spree just under two minutes into the game with a wrist shot from Jordan Staal and Chris Kunitz. The assist was the 100th career assist for 22-year-old Staal and the goal Kennedy’s 20th on the season. The game remained an even five-on-five for the entirety of the period, but that didn’t stop Florida from tying the game at one. Jack Skille snuck a wrister of his own past Brent Johnson before Clay Wilson pulled Florida ahead just 22 seconds later.

Pittsburgh struck quickly in the second with Pascal Dupuis scoring with the help of Max Talbot and Chris Conner just 15 seconds into the period. Once again, a clean period meant no special teams work for either club. Great saves by both goaltenders prevented any further changes until over halfway through the third period.

Pittsburgh went on the penalty kill just under five minutes into the third after a holding call to Matt Niskanen. After killing the man advantage, the Penguins went on their own power play at 8:08 as Ryan Carter spent two minutes in the box for hooking. The Penguins power play failed to convert. The Pens pulled ahead as Zbynek Michalek pulled out his fourth Pittsburgh goal at 12:59 of the third from Paul Martin and Jordan Staal. With a 3-2 lead, Craig Adams and Clay Wilson both went to the box at 15:40 for interference and holding calls respectively. It was a hooking call to Kris Letang at 16:30 that led to the game-winner for Pittsburgh. Just before the penalty expired, Craig Adams scored a short-handed empty netter to finish off Florida 4-2.
