Pirates make roster moves

Team recalls Jared Hughes and Yamaico Navarro

The Pirates made several roster moves today, recalling pitcher Jared Hughes and infielder Yamaico Navarro from Triple-A Indianapolis, and optioning pitcher Jeff Locke to Indy. In addition, Chad Qualls has been placed on the Bereavement List due to an illness in his family.
Hughes was sent to Triple-A earlier this week and is back up without having appeared in any games. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 47 Major League appearances this season.

Navarro hit .275 with 8 homers and 32 RBI with Indianapolis this season. The 24-year-old started the season with the Pirates and appeared in 25 games. He has played left field, right field, shortstop, second base and third base this season.

Locke appeared in just two games with the Pirates, allowing only 1 hit over 4.1 innings pitched.

Pirates second baseman Neil Walker dislocated the pinky finger on his right hand in Wednesday’s blowout loss to the Dodgers.
