Pirates’ Morton has hip surgery

Pirates righty out six months after successful surgery for a torn labrum in his right hip.

Pirates right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton underwent successful surgery on Monday to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.  The surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, TN.

There is no specific injury date or cause of injury, but the hip began to bother Charlie late during the 2011 season.

The hip bothered Charlie off and on during the season and it was decided that the best course of action was to have it repaired.

The typical recovery time for this type of surgery is approximately six months
