The Pirates (3-6) had only five hits, two of which were from Starling Marte, including a game-opening double. Gabby Sanchez, Michael McKenry and Josh Harrison were the only other Pirates that had a hit.
The Diamondbacks (6-3) were explosive at the plate, taking advantage of starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez. Making his second start of the season, Sanchez pitched 3.1 innings and gave up nine runs and eight hits, two of which were homeruns by A.J. Pollock.
Chris Leroux relieved Sanchez. He pitched 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and one run.
Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher Wade Miley got the victory and gave up only five hits and two runs in 6.2 innings. Sanchez was credited with the loss.
The Bucs will head back to PNC Park to take on the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, April 12 at 7:05 pm.
