Pirates recall d’Arnaud, Morris and VandenHurk

Meek designated for assignment

The Pirates have recalled INF Chase d’Arnaud and right-handed pitchers Bryan Morris and Rick VandenHurk from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Right-handed pitcher Evan Meek has been designated for assignment to make room for VandenHurk on the 40-man roster.

d’Arnaud, who made his major league debut for the Bucs last season and hit .217 in 143 plate appearances. He hit .252 at triple-A this year.

Morris, 25, was 2-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 46 triple-A appearances this year. He has yet to appear in a major league game. The 27-year-old VandenHurk, a native of the Netherlands, has made 46 major league appearances over the last six years, including 35 starts. He is 8-10 with a 4.44 ERA in the big leagues, having last pitched for Baltimore in 2011. He was 13-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 19 starts for Indianapolis this season.
