Pirates trade Matt Diaz

Outfielder sent to Atlanta for player to be named later

The Pirates have traded outfielder Matt Diaz to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.

Diaz, 33, was signed as a free agent on December 14 and hit .259 (56-for-216) with 12 doubles and 19 RBI in 100 games with Pittsburgh this season.

Diaz returns to Atlanta, where he played the previous five seasons (2006-2010).
