NBC Sports will once again feature a flexible scheduling format on Sunday afternoons that can see the Penguins appear up to four times, beginning with a Jan. 22 showdown with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals at CONSOL Energy Center.

Other potential NBC exclusive contests include: Feb. 19 at Buffalo; March 11 vs. Boston; March 18 at Philadelphia; April 1 vs. Philadelphia; and April 7 vs. Philadelphia.

For the 2011-12 season, Sunday games not picked up by NBC can be picked up by VERSUS as national exclusive games later than night. The five instances where the Penguins can be selected are Jan. 22 vs. Washington; March 11 at Boston; March 18 at Philadelphia; April 1 vs. Philadelphia and April 7 vs. Philadelphia.

All other Penguins’ games (a total of 70) will be broadcast locally by Root Sports.

Root Sports’ first regular season game will be Sat., October 8 when the Penguins visit the Calgary Flames beginning at 9:30pm.

“As die hard Penguins fans ourselves, we are excited to bring the passion, quality and connection behind the ROOT SPORTS brand to Pens games this season.  A new high tech on air graphics look and an enhanced viewing experience will take the fan to the arena and behind the scenes with us,” said Root Sports Senior Vice President & General Manager Shawn McClintock.

All 82 of the Penguins NHL games will be televised with a minimum of 70 games regionally on ROOT SPORTS.  The Penguins have been selected for 12 regular season games nationally, including the season opener on October 6.

Paul Steigerwald, Bob Errey and Dan Potash return as the in-game voices of Penguins Hockey on ROOT SPORTS. Before every game, Root Sports will feature Penguins Pregame with Penguins Postgame wrapping up the live event telecasts hosted by Stan Savran, Rob King, Paul Alexander and Lacee Collins.  The regional sports network will continue the popular Penguins Instant Replay, a two-hour replay of the game, as well as the 30-minute Penguins Rewind for most games this season.
