The Steelers have signed veteran free agent tight end Justin Peelle to a one-year deal, the team announced today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Peelle will wear No. 47.
Peelle (6-4, 251) spent the 2011 season with the San Francisco 49ers and before that was with the Atlanta Falcons (2008-10) and the Miami Dolphins (2006-07). He was originally drafted by San Diego in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft and spent his first four seasons with the Chargers.
To make room on the roster the Steelers placed fullback/tight end David Johnson on the Waived/Injured List.
Johnson suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Steelers preseason loss to Philadelphia last Thursday.
