Steelers-Raiders Preview Capsule

The Steelers play another crucial conference game on Sunday when the much-improved Oakland Raiders come to Pittsburgh for a 1 PM kickoff.

The Steelers, trying to bounce back from a crushing fourth-squarter loss to the AFC North leading Cincinnati Bengals, find themselves locked into a battle with the Raiders for an AFC Wild Card playoff spot.

What’s on the Line: The Steelers back-to-back losses to Kansas City and Cincinnati give the team four conference losses. A win against Oakland is crucial as another loss would provide a difficult hill to climb for any potential playoff battle. The Raiders are just one of the teams battling the Steelers for a Wild Card spot, and a win would give either team a leg up in that race.

Key Player: Oakland WR Amari Cooper. The Steelers pass defense has taken some hits this season. The rookie out of Alabama has several 100-yard games to his credit in 2015. He and quarterback Derek Carr continue to be on the same page, and could serve as a difficult task for the Steelers secondary. Oakland’s No. 2 receiver Michael Crabtree privides a solid compliment to the dynamic Cooper. Safety help on both receivers will be imperitive, as will putting pressure on Carr.

Worth Noting: Oakland has won the last two meetings.

Injury Report: Both Stephon Tuitt (knee) and Will Allen (ankle), who have missed multiple games due to injury, were full participants in practice Friday, and are listed as probable on the team’s final injury report before the Week 9 game. Raiders safety TJ Carrie is questionable with shoulder and hip injuries. If Carrie can’t go, he would be replaced at safety by Larry Asante and on punt returns by recently signed Marcus Thigpen.
